Andhra govt to apply energy efficiency measures in 28.3 lakh homes

On December 16, in a measure towards adopting the Indo-Swiss energy-efficient building technology in the development of the planned 28 lakh homes, the Andhra Pradesh housing department, in coordination with the AP State Energy Conservation Mission (APSECM), is carrying out a national seminar on Eco-Niwas Samhitha (energy conservation building code for residential buildings) in Vijayawada.
The BEEP, a bilateral cooperation project between the Power Ministry and the Swiss government, is being executed by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency in coordination with APSECM. The BEEP is carrying out training on Eco-Niwas Samhitha to about 13,000 engineers and employees in housing and village or ward secretariat departments in a phased manner.
Given the upcoming national seminar on energy conservation building code - residential buildings鈥�, special chief secretary for housing department Ajay Jain held a review with authorities. He told the media that the state government is committed to executing global energy efficiency standards in 28.3 lakh homes with the help of Indo-Swiss BEEP.<.p>
Using the energy efficiency building designs in the development of homes is only an option but not compulsory for the beneficiaries. The energy-efficient designs are likely to assist to preserve 20% energy in homes, Ajay Jain told the media.
According to the estimates, around Rs 33,000 crore will be spent on the development of permanent infrastructure in YSR Jagananna Colonies that comprises roads, drains, water supply, electrification, underground internet cabling and others. The electrification works alone require approximately Rs 7,080 crore.
Jain said that the state government has undertaken the development of 15.6 lakh homes in the first phase with an evaluated cost of Rs 28,000 crore. Works have commenced on 10.72 lakh homes in 10,055 layouts. To encourage construction, 245 godowns will be installed at significant housing layouts to make materials available for the beneficiaries easily. Already 11 godowns have been installed across the state.
