Residents of Anjanapura BDA Layout are vehemently opposing the proposed relocation of slum dwellers to their area. Developed by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) 25 years ago, the layout has long struggled with inadequate basic amenities, including a lack of piped water. The community currently depends on water tankers for their daily needs. The Karnataka Slum Development Board recently proposed relocating slum residents from Kengeri and Shankarpally to Anjanapura, rather than the initially planned sites of Uttarahalli and Gollahalli. Due to strong resistance from Gollahalli residents, the relocation site was shifted to Kembathalli Village near NICE Road. Residents have voiced strong objections to the relocation plan. It is unfair to impose this on us. Our crime rate is already rising, and adding slum dwellers could worsen the situation,one resident stated. The Anjanapura Further Extension 9th, 10th, and 11th Block Residents Welfare Association has submitted a letter to Bengaluru Urban Deputy Commissioner KA Dayanananda. The letter expresses concerns about the proposed relocation site, located between Anjanapura's 10th and 11th blocks and adjacent to a Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board tank. The residents worry that this could lead to contamination of local water resources and negatively impact the area's peace and security. Another resident added, BDA has not provided any civic amenities such as schools, parks, or playgrounds. With no piped water available and this new proposal, there is growing anxiety among residents.
