The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to develop layouts to provide housing plots for middle-class families in urban areas. It is anticipated to promote the planned and integrated development of several towns. Addressing the middle-income group (MIG) aspirations for quality housing and allied infrastructure is the plan. The government will be taking all steps to supply basic infrastructure facilities, including drains, electricity, roads and water supply in the offered layouts. According to the price fixed by the government, the plots will be sold to the MIG families. Headed by the municipal administration secretary, the state government has constituted a high-level committee to oversee the whole project. Director of the town and country planning, joint collector of the respective district, vice-chairman/managing director of the urban development authority, public health engineer-in-chief and special officer, MIG project would be members of the high-level committee. The government noted that the VC/MC of the urban development authority and the joint collector (RB&R) should collectively identify the land available in the development authority area of the district. Special chief secretary (municipal administration), Y Srilakshmi, told the media that the land would be identified by giving preference to immediate salability and that the land parcels so identified shall be within 5 km from the ULB boundary. However, immediately saleable land may be proposed even if located at more than 5 km distance along with suitable justification. She ordered the district collectors to prioritise taking over government land, including those owned by government undertaking /assigned land, which are free from encroachments and litigations following the procedure under the law. She noted that the private lands could also be identified, which can be purchased under the LARR Act, 2013, as amended by Act 22 of 2018 and the rules.
