BEE to use Indo-Swiss building tech to build houses in Andhra

The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), which is part of the Ministry of Power, has finalised an action plan for implementing the Building Energy Efficiency Project (BEEP) in the state housing scheme.

The BEEP project aims to promote energy-efficient building design in the proposed 28 lakh houses in Andhra Pradesh by implementing Indo-Swiss energy-efficient building technology.

As per officials with the Andhra Pradesh State Energy Conservation Mission (APSECM), the Indo-Swiss technology will help reduce the temperature inside the houses by at least two degrees compared to conventional houses. It will also provide sufficient natural ventilation and daylighting, saving at least 20% on electricity and ensuring safe and healthy living conditions.

The BEEP team will hold a seminar in Tirupati on 22nd October in collaboration with APSECM and the state housing department as a first step toward implementing the initiative in Andhra Pradesh. This capacity-building programme is expected to raise awareness about the Eco-Niwas Samhita or energy conservation building code for residential buildings and energy-efficient and thermally comfortable building design.

The BEEP has also decided to train 500 engineers and other employees from the village or ward secretariat departments in energy efficiency technology in the building sector.

In a communique to the special chief secretary for housing, Ajay Jain, and energy secretary, Srikant Nagulapalli, director-general of BEE, Abhay Bhakre informed the BEE is impressed by the Andhra Pradesh government's efforts to implement energy conservation and efficiency programmes.
