Bengaluru Development Authority doubles property tax

The Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA) announced a steep increase in property tax, delivering a shocker to the people of Bengaluru already suffering from the post-Covid difficulties.

However, parts of the extra maintenance fee are uniform over BDA layouts, but the effect on the site owners varies because of the property tax changes. For example, a 30ft x 40ft site proprietor in Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Layout, who paid Rs 838 as property tax in 2020, needs to pay Rs 3,233 this year, a 286% increase.

Similarly, a 40ft x 60ft site owner in Anjanapura Layout now pays Rs 6,016 tax. On the other hand, it was Rs 3,616 the previous year.

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), BDA, and other public companies usually increase rates by a maximum of 15%.

The scores owners of large plots known as STOI will complain regarding the hike.

The BDA added new maintenance costs to property tax, making the people angry as it's yet to construct roads or neglected upkeep in others.

In the latest plans, allottees have been pleading with BDA, RERA, and the government for basic facilities such as roads, sanitary pipelines, drinking water, and footpaths.
