Centre allocates additional 1.99 lakh houses to J&K under PMAY-G

The Centre has allocated an additional 1.99 lakh houses to Jammu and Kashmir under the 'Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojna-Gramin' (PMAY-G) to fulfill the permanent waiting list of the Union Territory. This significant allocation aims to saturate the 'AwaasPlus' waiting list during the 2023-24 period, according to officials. The Rural Development Department is set to sanction the targeted houses by June 30.

The Union Ministry of Rural Development has provided the highest allocation among all Union Territories in India for Jammu and Kashmir under this flagship scheme, as stated by an official spokesperson. This move demonstrates the priority given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Rural Development Giriraj Singh to the development of Jammu and Kashmir, fulfilling the aspirations of numerous families.

Expressing gratitude, Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Giriraj Singh for their support. In a tweet, he acknowledged the allocation of an additional target of 1,99,550 houses under PMAY-G for Jammu and Kashmir, emphasising that it is a significant step towards achieving the objective of "Housing for All." This allocation of houses reflects the government's commitment to ensuring affordable and quality housing for all residents of the Union Territory, contributing to their overall well-being and social progress.
