Construction works in several building construction sectors, including Jamshedpur, have declined as no construction workers showed up for many days. According to builder Rohit Sharma, not one construction worker has shown up at any of his construction sites since 14 January 2022. He said that even the security guard did not come for his duty, due to which thieves took away Thermo Mechanically Treated (TMT) rods and cement sacs worth several lakh rupees on Saturday. He added that the security providing agencies are also facing a labour crunch. One of the agencies said that they are working with just one-third of the actual strength of workers, and on night duty, the number of workers declines even more. Many shops in Jamshedpur had to shut down their shops because of no staff to continue their operations. The scenario of labour crunch is prevalent at the eateries across the city. The small shops with less staff have shut down till the situation improves. One of the famous South Indian food joints in Jamshedpur had said that they had shortened their menu as many kitchen staff and serving staff are infected with Covid-19 or are not present due to Tusu Parav. Street food joints in the Bistupur area had fewer food stalls as many customers stayed indoors, with many stalls owners affected by the Covid-19 virus and the staff going to their native villages.
