The enforcement team of the department of town and country planning (DTCP) demolished three illegal colonies developed on seven acres of prime agricultural land in the Khawaspur, Babra, and Bakipur villages of Farrukhnagar. A road network, one under-construction structure, and boundary walls were demolished using earthmovers during the drive. The drive was resisted by locals, claiming that property dealers cheated them by hiding the facts, and they lost their life-long savings. In violation of the Haryana Development and Regulation of Urban Areas Act, the department received complaints about illegal colonies being carved out in three villages of Farrukhnagar. As soon as the team arrived at the site along with two earthmovers, locals opposed the drive. They blocked the way, said RS Batth, the district town planner. They claimed that no prior information was provided to them about the drive, nor were show-cause notices served to the developers, said Batth. Police had to disperse the crowd to ensure that demolitions were carried out properly, he said. Some plots had already been sold, and development was underway at these plots, the DTP said. Assistant town planner Ashish Sharma said the colonies were in the initial stage of development and a road network had been built, and planning was underway. He said the builders were also constructing an office property dealer to sell the remaining plots. The builders and other persons behind these illegal colonies' development are also being identified, and an FIR would be registered against them.
