Governments in North East hurry to fulfil new PMAY-Gramin deadline

The governments of the northeastern states are pressed for time to meet their obligations to provide housing for the impoverished in rural areas. The Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin now has a March 2024 target date (PMAY-G).

The present status of the program was discussed by Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, the Union Minister of State for Rural Development, in a written Lok Sabha reply. 85% of the 2.49 crore dwellings authorised by various states and Union territories have been built as of this point.

But in the northeast, 50鈥80% of the authorised houses are still unfinished. The PMAY-original G's deadline was 2022, but it has already been extended until March 2024. In accordance with the plan, pucca houses with the most basic amenities began to be built nationwide on April 1, 2016.

The size of a specific dwelling according to the plan is 25 square metres. The entire measurement also includes a space for clean cooking.

By completing the construction of 79.77% of the total 2.49 lakh dwellings sanctioned under PMAY-G, Tripura has done a fantastic job.

Up till December 7th, 2022, Meghalaya and Manipur reportedly finished 52.68% and 50.66% of the entire number of dwellings approved. In Meghalaya, 65,155 homes and in Manipur, 36,454 homes were approved. Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh are last, with completion rates of only 23.42% and 27.28%, respectively. Mizoram has finished 6,167 of the 18,373 dwellings that were authorised. The greatest numbers of pucca dwellings under the program have been approved in Assam.

Less than half of the 14, 57,835 dwellings that are planned have been built. The Assam government has so far built 7, 03,332 of the desired number of homes. The announcement further stated that numerous elements are taken into consideration each year when determining the targets for PMAY-G.

Discussions with the States and Union Territories as well as the evaluation of the available and qualified beneficiaries are included.
