Govt supports states and UTs under PMAY-U

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, under the concept of 鈥楬ousing for All鈥 by 2022, is increasing the efforts of States or Union Territories (UTs) by rendering central help under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U) for the development of homes for all eligible families or beneficiaries since 25.06.2015. Under the PMAY-U Scheme, there are no targets.

The schemes on housing are executed by States and Union Territories and the Land and Colonisation are State Subjects.

Based on the demand, the State or UT Government makes project proposals under PMAY-U and after due approval of the State Level Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (SLSMC) presents it to the Ministry for approval. Against the demand of 1.12 crore homes as validated by States and UTs in 2017, so far, 1.14 crore have been approved by the Ministry under PMAY-U.

The Ministry has sanctioned all project proposals for providing houses to eligible beneficiaries as proposed and duly approved by States and UTs. No fresh demand is pending with the Ministry for further approval. The Ministry is open to approving proposals obtained from States or UTs till the Mission period.

This data was provided by the Minister for Housing & Urban Affairs, Shri Hardeep S Puri, in a written response in the Lok Sabha.
