Gurugram civic body to use vacant urban land for developments

Municipal Corporation Gurugram (MCG) has framed a plan to utilise over 224 acres of vacant urban land to develop residential, commercial, institutional and infrastructural facilities in the city.

According to an official, the municipal corporation expects to generate Rs 10,000 crore in revenue from the project.

The civic body has 918.70 acres of vacant land, out of which 277.25 acres are in Bajghera village under litigation. Of the remaining 641.45 acres, 224.77 acres fall within the urban areas and 416.68 acres in the agricultural area.

The civic body has planned major projects, including hospitals, group housings, societies, commercial complexes, electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, women's college, rental spaces and sports facilities.

MCG has recently sent a proposal to the state government to get in-principle approval.

The planning department has also sent the proposal to the councillors of 35 wards to create more citizen-centric facilities.

Chief town planner of MCG, Madhusmita Moitra, said that it aims to generate revenue for the civic body.

The patches of land are blocked for utilisation, and the civic body will survey to check the feasibility of the project grounds.

Around 7.12 acres of land is available in Sector 33, from which 2.85 acres are under encroachment. For the remaining 4.27 acres, the civic body will develop commercial shop-cum-office spaces, which will be rented to generate income.

Sector 35 has 1.35 acres of available land over which a veterinary hospital, multipurpose booths and roads will be developed.

In Sector 58, 1.68 acres of land are available, over which the hospital will be developed over 1.5 acres of land.

The civic body has planned to develop an Anganwadi play school and roads on 11.1 acres of land in Sector 61.

Sectors 62 and 65 will have multi-level parking spaces over 2.87 acres of vacant land and nursing home over 1.48 acres, respectively. Sector 75 will have a sports academy and related facilities.

The civic body will develop an indoor sports stadium in Sector 102 over 1.25 acres of land and a CNG station, a petrol pump, EV charging infrastructure, commercial shop-cum-office spaces and a sports stadium on 22 acres of land in Sector 102A.

In Sector 106, 34.65 acres of land are available, and the civic body plans to earmark plots under Deen Dayal Jan Awas Yojna (DDJAY). It will include a women's hostel, a high school with the hostel, a commercial complex, an Anganwadi play school, parks, roads and an extension of the existing cremation ground.

Assistant town planner at MCG, Siddharth Sankalp, said that the civic body intends to utilise the urban and agricultural land to create more open spaces and make the city vibrant.

He said that MCG is looking for big investors to collaborate on the utilisation of vacant agricultural land to develop a state-of-the-art facility similar to the City Zoo in Singapore.
