Housing scheme may get 300,000 million in Telangana budget

Besides regular funding for several signature programmes, the BRS administration will primarily concentrate on securing funding for a 2BHK housing programme with a 0.3 million grant for each low-income family with land ownership.

Following recent budget discussions, sources claim that the government is considering spending $300 million on this project.

2.7 million low-income households in the state do not possess a home, according to the Samagra Kutumba Survey. And this time, 3.7 million would have been involved.

4.5 million of the 9.1 million households in the survey鈥攚hich was carried out in the early stages of the state's formation鈥攍ive in homes with only one bedroom. Three lakh households reside in slums and government land parcels, and another 2.4 million households rent their homes.

The state government wants to make this one of the primary campaign issues during the assembly elections this time, according to sources, so there has been a lot of thinking.

The BRS leaders will also discuss how funds allocated by previous administrations for the construction of low-income housing have fared.

According to sources, the date on which applications for the $0.3 million grant will be accepted will be disclosed during the budget address. The number of homes that will be distributed among each assembly segment is not yet known.

The BJP has been criticising the BRS administration of failing to forward the double bedroom plan despite the Center's willingness to provide funding. BJP officials cited examples of how BJP-run states like Uttar Pradesh used financing from the federal government to build double-bedroom homes for the underprivileged.
