Maharashtra govt to provide incentives to IT sector for expansion

Maharashtra Minister Satej Patil, told the media that the Maha Vikas Aghadi government would give incentives to the Information Technology (IT) industry to reduce the burden on Mumbai and Pune to set up projects in tier-2 and tier-3 cities in Nagpur, Amravati, Latur, and Satara.
On Thursday, in an event by the Indian Merchants Chambers (IMC), the minister for IT and home said that the government has also planned to set up healthcare centres, public health centres, civic hospitals, and medical colleges in cities and rural areas.
The minister spoke about the incentives that the state government will provide to the IT sector and assured its full support to the industrialists present in the department.
In a virtual meeting, the minister said that Maharashtra had been a forefront in the IT sector, and the state government led by Uddhav Thackeray, Chief Minister, will ensure that it leads from the front.
Mumbai, Pune, Aurangabad, and Nagpur are the four proven IT hubs, and the human resources (HRs) in these cities have helped the state to be in the top sector, he said.
The government wants to spread the IT sector from big cities to small cities, he said.
Mumbai and Pune are the leaders of the IT sector and are saturated due to migration. The government now wants to expand into tier-2 and tier-3 cities such as Nagpur, Amravati, Satara, Latur, and Nanded, and others by providing incentives to the industries.
The IT industries will be facilitated with electricity and infrastructure through a separate IT policy, Patil said.
He also said that the IT department of the state was rolling out a platform to check the healthcare needs of the people.
