Mysuru civic body to adopt BBMP model to curb revenue layout growth

Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) plans to adopt the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) model to restrain the development of revenue layouts.

While it is planning to give B khatas to residents in 61 revenue layouts, a majority of which are in the Narasimharaja assembly segment, it will hold a vigil on the development of such layouts, which derail the plans to guarantee regulated and planned growth.

Since MCC was losing crores in income despite rendering facilities such as electricity, water, waste segregation, UGD, the civic body has started the process for releasing B Khatas to properties built in revenue land in the lines of BBMP. The offer was discussed by all members elaborately in the last council meeting.

There are over 51,000 revenue properties, but MCC is not obtaining any tax from them. Presently, MCC has 1.92 lakh taxable properties in all its 65 wards. While the 鈥楢-Khata鈥 lists legal properties, 鈥楤-Khata鈥 lists illegal or semi-legal properties. Though the 鈥楤-Khata鈥 is not similar to 鈥楢-Khata鈥, it can function as a temporary solution for activities such as approving civic facilities and can be a document for loan approvals, officials told the media.

Once the 61 layouts come under the MCC tax net, property owners will not meet any legal and financial problems while dealing with their properties. MCC council secretary Rangaswamy told the media that the problem was only discussed, but it was not finalised during the council meeting. As the term of mayor ended lately, MCC is waiting for the government approval for reservation for the next mayor and conduct elections.

A decision on this offer will be finalised just in the next council meeting in which the new mayor will decide after discussing the problem threadbare. Former mayor and senior Congress corporator Arif Hussein told the media that MCC鈥檚 offer of releasing B Khatas to revenue properties on the lines of BBMP assists produce more revenue, but MCC must not allow any third parties to release such khatas as several residents were defrauded in Bengaluru during a similar process.
