Nashik Municipal Corp to bring new properties under tax

The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) or civic body has decided to bring all the new properties immediately under the tax net online after issuing the Building Completion Certificate (BCC). It will avoid delays in levying the property tax.

As of now, the property owners have to apply to the Nashik civic body for levying the property tax after the town planning authority issues the BCC to them. The property tax has been levied on new properties after a long time due to various reasons, such as delays from the residents' side in applying for the levy of the property. It even affects the revenue generation of the civic body. A lack of workforce for many works can also be an issue in property tax.

Nashik Municipal Commissioner, Kailas Jadhav, has decided to boost the levy process of property tax to new properties immediately after issuing the BCC to the concerned new properties.

He instructed the Information and Technology (IT) sector to link the online town planning and property tax together. It will create a system by which the property owners will immediately receive the property tax online after the town planning department issues the BCC.

The Deputy Commissioner of NMC, Pradeep Chaudhari, said that the IT department is in the process of creating software to connect the town planning and property tax departments. Now, owners have to apply for property tax as soon as they receive the property bill after the issuing of BCCs to the owners.

Currently, NMC has a record of 4.5 lakh properties, and it is in the process to add even more new properties.
