Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to announce the Neopolis IT Township project in Technopark Phase-IV, Thiruvananthapuram, a Rs 1,000 crore initiative under the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. Part of the Outer Area Growth Corridor (OAGC), this project aims to establish a cutting-edge urban ecosystem. It represents one of eight such projects nationwide, with Thiruvananthapuram as Kerala's sole beneficiary.
The Neopolis IT Township will support aerospace industries, electronics, software, and IT, focusing on advanced technologies like artificial intelligence, robotics, IoT, blockchain, and machine learning. Envisioned as a self-sustaining urban environment, it will integrate business hubs, residential spaces, shopping malls, recreational zones, and five-star hotels, fostering economic growth and innovation.
The state government has set up a nine-member joint panel, led by the IT Secretary, to oversee planning and coordination. This Special Purpose Company (SPC) involves Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, Andoorkonam and Mangalapuram Panchayats, CRDP, and Technopark.
Strategically located on Thiruvananthapuram鈥檚 outskirts, the township will utilize existing infrastructure while driving future economic opportunities. It complements the QUAD initiative within Technopark Phase-IV.
The project stems from the 15th Finance Commission's recommendation, which allocated Rs 8,000 crore for smart city development in eight states. Kerala's proposal was submitted in August 2023, aligning with criteria for advanced urban growth.
This transformative venture highlights the synergy between central and state governments in fostering innovation and urban progress. The official announcement underscores the government鈥檚 commitment to positioning Thiruvananthapuram as a global IT and aerospace hub.
