Notices issued to private developers for lack of basic infrastructure

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister, D K Shivakumar, has directed officials to issue notices to private developers for failing to provide essential infrastructure in their layouts. During an inspection of the 'Raja Kaluve' at Rachenahalli Lake in North Bengaluru, he highlighted the role of inadequate rainwater flow provisions in private layouts as a key contributor to flooding. Shivakumar emphasised the need to address flooding issues in phases, identifying vulnerable areas annually. He also pledged action against encroachments on Raja Kaluve and non-compliance with Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) regulations. Regarding the Sky deck construction project in Bengaluru, he assured consideration of factors like land availability and parking. Responding to questions about BBMP elections, Shivakumar expressed the government's eagerness pending court proceedings. Inspecting flood-prone areas in the city, including Ramanashree Gardenia layout in Yelahanka, he assured residents of addressing incomplete drainage works and separating sewage and storm water drains. Sewage water will not flow into any of the lakes in Bengaluru from now on. Only rainwater or treated water will be allowed into the lakes. This will ensure that the groundwater is charged and bore wells don't dry up, he said. During his visit to Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), he was briefed on the on-going construction of retaining walls along Raja Kaluve, promising swift action to address flooding concerns in the area.
