Tamil Nadu to appoint five DROs to speed up land acquisition

E V Velu, Tamil Nadu's minister of public works and state highways, said on Monday that the state government will soon appoint five district revenue officer (DRO) cadre officers to speed up the ongoing land acquisition process.

Velu told the media that although detailed project reports (DPRs) and also funds for the proposed state highways projects are ready, land acquisition delays are stalling progress in Trichy. We will appoint five exclusive DROs to expedite the land acquisition, as per the chief minister's directions, because DROs in districts are already occupied with district-level official work.

Velu also said that appointments would be made as soon as possible. The minister stated that roads maintained by rural civic bodies would be upgraded to meet state highway standards, claiming that several MLAs in the central region had demanded this during a review meeting for five districts, including Trichy.

The Chief Minister was informed of the need for elevated corridors to alleviate traffic congestion in Trichy.

The DRO position was established in 1983. The District Revenue Officer's job is to assist the Deputy Commissioner in conducting the Naib Tahsildars, Tahsildars and Sub Registrars who work in the District.

There are seven branches that work under the District Revenue Officer for proper screening and smooth operation of Revenue officers' work鈥擲adar Kanungo branch, Head Registration Branch, Copying Agency, Vernacular Record Room, Flood branch, District Revenue Accounts Branch, and Ligh Migh Branch.
