Thrikkakara Municipality to evict Apple Heights residents

The residents of Apple Heights apartment complex in Vazhakkala have received an eviction notice from the Thrikkakara municipality due to their non-payment of taxes to the local body. Currently, there are 85 families residing in the complex, most of whom are tenants.

In a notice sent to the residents' association of the apartment on October 27, the municipality secretary conveyed that the civic body had incurred losses amounting to billion because they had not received permit fees and taxes. The municipality stated that the association had failed to submit No Objection Certificates (NOCs) from the fire service and the Pollution Control Board (PCB).

The notice further explained, "Despite these shortcomings, people are residing there unlawfully. The association is unwilling to legalise the building and provide NOCs. If residents continue to stay without these documents, it could result in more significant issues in the future. To prevent this, measures must be taken to evacuate the residents from the premises."

Prior to serving the notice, municipal authorities had conducted a meeting with the association members, informing them that the building was deemed 'illegal.' They were advised to pay the taxes and obtain the necessary NOCs. However, the meeting failed to reach a resolution.
