TN govt to assess stability of buildings built by TNHB: S Muthusamy

On Sunday, housing and urban development minister S Muthusamy told the media that he directed officials to evaluate the stability of buildings built by the Tamil Nadu housing board (TNHB).
The minister told the media that all TNHB buildings classified as weak across the state would be assessed, and required steps would be taken based on advice given by experts.
On charges of substandard construction of TNHB buildings, Muthusamy said that wherever there are grievances, inspection has been directed. Initially, TNHB officers will assess, then an expert team will be deputed to review and present a report.
Chief Minister M K Stalin will examine the reports.
On claimed inconsistencies in the housing board, the minister said that the ministry is ready to investigate specific complaints and take action.
Muthusamy, who inspected the severely damaged housing unit at Singanallur in Coimbatore, said that the government is ready to construct new flats in place of the damaged homes. The state government is ready to build 960 homes for the Singanallur housing unit residents. But there are four residential societies. They must come together, and only then they can work this out properly. Otherwise, there will be barriers, and the work will get delayed.
The four-storey structures at Singanallur were built 30 years ago.
Speaking about residents' complaints in the Hudco Colony in Peelamedu, the minister said that the pathway to Surya Nagar, Senthil Nagar, Anna Nagar and other residential localities was obstructed because the road they were utilising was private land, which the owner had closed.
The government had earmarked Rs 32 crore for road laying operations. A solid waste management project would be executed for Rs 2 crore in Gobichettipalayam municipality, and Rs 50 lakh would be used on a park for the Municipality.
