Trichy City Municipal Corporation proposes master plan for Panjapur

The Trichy City Municipal Corporation has proposed a separate master plan for Panjapur, a locality on the Trichy-Madurai national highway, in order to make better use of its 400 acres of land.

The master plan aims to make the best use of the available space because the civic body owns a large land parcel in the area where several infrastructure projects, such as an integrated bus terminal (IBT), wholesale market, and truck terminal, have been proposed.

According to reports in the media, a tender was issued to find a suitable agency to carry out the study.

In addition to reviewing existing proposals, it will have parameters for key design and development proposals.

According to officials, the area surrounding the Trichy integrated transport hub, which includes a maintenance yard, multi-level car parking, an omnibus stand, and a comprehensive mobility plan, requires planned development.

The master plan focuses on land classification and will evaluate water availability, physical features of the land, and environmental studies.

Trichy Corporation owns 575 acres of land in Panjapur, on which a slew of proposals has been made, as per officials.

The remaining land will be used for infrastructure development, with about 115 acres set aside for IBT.

The need for a master plan, according to an official, stems from the civic body's lack of a consolidated land parcel, with the exception of Panjapur

. The unnamed agency will conduct infrastructure and utility assessments and make recommendations for infrastructure projects that are compatible.

Aside from the proposed projects, Panjapur was expected to get a 10 acre Trichy trade centre and a slum clearance board residential project with high-rises.

Officials cited that with such investments in place, they must ensure long-term development, for which a master plan is essential. Once identified, the agency has five months to complete the study.
