KSRTC to launch Ashwamedha service on Mangaluru-Kasaragod route

The KSRTC Mangaluru division is set to introduce 10 Ashwamedha Classic buses on the Mangaluru-Kasaragod route, pending the approval of non-AC buses.

The state government has sought input from the Mangaluru division regarding the feasibility of implementing the Ashwamedha service on this interstate route. These buses will only stop at major towns, enhancing convenience for interstate travelers, particularly as the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) accelerates the new six-lane road project connecting Mangaluru and Kasaragod.

Rajesh Shetty, senior divisional controller of KSRTC Mangaluru, confirmed that the division recently responded to the government's inquiry. 鈥淐urrently, we operate 40 buses on the Mangaluru-Kasaragod route, matched by the Kerala transport corporation鈥檚 fleet. Introducing the Ashwamedha express service with only 12 stops will greatly benefit thousands of commuters between the two states,鈥 he noted.

A group of passengers traveling between Kasaragod and Mangaluru previously approached the KSRTC headquarters in Bengaluru, meeting with Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy to advocate for improved transportation options on this route. This led to the headquarters directing the Mangaluru division to explore the viability of adding Ashwamedha buses. Currently, buses on this 55 km stretch make nearly 50 stops, but with the new service, stops would be limited to just 12.

Shetty added, 鈥淲e communicated to the head office that we can start the service as soon as the government sanctions 10 Ashwamedha buses along with the necessary staff. Once approved, we will create schedules that utilise the new six-lane NH-66, avoiding service roads for smoother travel.鈥
