PM Modi inaugurates landmark IAADB 2023 at Red Fort

Prime Minister, Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the inaugural Indian Art, Architecture & Design Biennale (IAADB) 2023, taking place at the historic Red Fort on December 8, 2023, around 4 PM. As part of the ceremony, the Prime Minister will also unveil the Aatmanirbhar Bharat Centre for Design at the Red Fort and the student Biennale, named Samunnati.
The establishment of IAADB aligns with the Prime Minister's vision to establish a prominent Global Cultural Initiative in India, akin to renowned International Biennales in Venice, Sao Paulo, Singapore, Sydney, and Sharjah. This vision prompted a nationwide campaign to revitalise and modernise museums, as well as the development of cultural spaces in five Indian cities: Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, and Varanasi. The IAADB will serve as an introduction to the Cultural Space in Delhi.
Scheduled from December 9 to 15, 2023, at Red Fort, New Delhi, IAADB follows recent initiatives such as the International Museum Expo in May 2023 and the Festival of Libraries in August 2023. The biennale aims to foster a comprehensive dialogue among artists, architects, designers, photographers, collectors, art professionals, and the public, enhancing cultural discourse and creating opportunities for collaboration in the evolving economy.
IAADB will feature theme-based exhibitions each day:
- Day 1: Pravesh - Rite of Passage: Doors of India
- Day 2: Bagh e bahar: Gardens as Universe: Gardens of India
- Day 3: Sampravah: Confluence of Communities: Baolis of India
- Day 4: Sthapatya: Anti fragile algorithm: Temples of India
- Day 5: Vismaya: Creative Crossover: Architectural Wonders of Independent India
- Day 6: Deshaj Bharat Design: Indigenous Designs
- Day 7: Samatva: Shaping the Built: Celebrating Women in Architecture
The IAADB program includes pavilions based on these themes, along with panel discussions, art workshops, an art bazaar, heritage walks, and a parallel student biennale named Samunnati. Hosted at Lalit Kala Akademi, Samunnati provides students with a platform to showcase their work, engage with peers and professionals, and gain exposure within the architecture community through design competitions, heritage displays, installations, and workshops. IAADB 23 is poised to be a pivotal moment for India, marking its entry into the Biennale landscape.
In adherence to the Prime Minister's vision of 'Vocal for Local,' the 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat Centre for Design' at the Red Fort aims to spotlight India's unique and indigenous crafts. This center will serve as a collaborative space bridging artisans and designers, fostering a sustainable cultural economy by empowering artisan communities with new designs and innovations.
