Kerala govt prioritises Sabarimala airport project

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan told the media that the Sabarimala airport project is on the top of the priority list of the state government.

SC, ST welfare and parliamentary affairs minister K Radhakrishnan told the media that the government is moving forward with land purchase for the project.

The techno-economic feasibility and social impact evaluation reports that were held by Louis Berger Consulting Private Limited have been presented to the Centre. Additional details concerning this asked by the ministry of civil aviation are being made.

The state government approved the project in 2017 itself. The government has also elected Kerala state industrial development corporation (KSIDC) as the nodal agency for executing the project. After the reports were presented by the state to the ministry of civil aviation, it had raised certain questions concerning the project.

Citing the views of the director-general of civil aviation (DGCA), the civil aviation ministry had asked for specific clarifications from the government while examining the application for project approval. The approval from the defence ministry is expected shortly as Indian Air Force (IAF) has conveyed that it has no problem in giving site clearance.
