Chennai Port-Maduravoyal expressway sees revival under PM Gati Shakti

All decks have been cleared under PM Gati Shakti to revive the stalled Chennai Port-Maduravoyal Elevated Expressway for boosting Chennai's infrastructure.
The 20.6 km double-decker elevated corridor will be constructed with an estimated cost of Rs 5,770 crore.
State Minister of Finance, Palanivel Thiaga Rajan, told the media that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) would be closed between the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Tamil Nadu government, Navy and Chennai Port for implementing the Maduravoyal-Chennai Port Elevated Corridor.
He said that the government is committed to reviving and implementing the Maduravoyal-Chennai Port Elevated Corridor project, which is vital to the commercial development and infrastructure of Chennai. A detailed project report (DPR) is being prepared by NHAI.
In an event by the Madras Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Paliwal said the two-tier elevated corridor was designed to have two lanes in each tier, executed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
The Maduravoyal-Chennai elevated corridor will be connected to the under-construction Bangalore-Chennai Expressway by a 22 km long elevated road that will run along Poonamallee High Road from Sriperumbudur in Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu.
The two central government arms, Chennai Port Trust (CPT) and the Indian Navy, have agreed to enter a barter deal for the land exchange.
Under the agreement, the Indian Navy will provide CRT with 1.09 lakh sq ft of land in exchange for an equivalent area closer to the port boundary near INS Adyar.
Overall, 64 houses will be constructed in the land parcel provided by the CPT. After identifying the land for the construction of houses for the Navy, the project gained further momentum.
The Ministry of Shipping provided in-principal approval based on a no-objection certification (NOC) given by the Indian Navy in Chennai. The Indian Navy also received approval from the Ministry of Defence (MoD).
