The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI)'s Rewari project implement unit (PIU) has taken over the upkeep and improvement of the NH-48 stretch from Kherki Daula to Bawal.
Many parts of the 65 km stretch are in bad shape, and the authority has delayed a number of projects to improve the road. According to NHAI officials who are aware of the situation, the road resurfacing project will initially be assigned to the Rewari PIU, while major structures will be upgraded at the headquarters.
Commuters and residents had raised the issue of the Delhi-Jaipur highway (NH-48)'s poor maintenance and the sluggish construction of flyovers and underpasses numerous times. According to sources, Union minister and Gurugram MP Rao Inderjit Singh had also raised the issue with Union transport minister Nitin Gadkari, which resulted in a review of the ongoing projects.
Vikas Mittal, Senior Manager, NHAI, stated that the transfer of responsibility for the maintenance of the highway stretch in Haryana has begun, NHAI is taking over the 65 km stretch from Kherki Daula to Bawal's maintenance. At first, the goal will be to speed up road overlaying work and make maintenance better. At the NHAI headquarters, a decision regarding the transfer of structural works is due meanwhile the Gurugram-Rewari highway project is already being worked on by the Rewari PIU.
On the Delhi-Jaipur highway between Kherki Daula and Jaipur, the NHAI put out a tender in 2021 for major improvement work at 14 locations. Six grade separators, eleven bus bays, four major bridges, five road overbridges, seven minor bridges, and the entire plan calls for their construction. The work was delayed, but the entire project was supposed to be finished in 18 months.
