DMRC Completes Tunnelling for Golden Line

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced that it had successfully completed the boring of an 865-metre underground tunnel near Chhatarpur, as part of the development of the 23.62-km Golden Line connecting Aerocity to Tughlakabad. The tunnel boring was finalised when a tunnel boring machine (TBM) broke through the final underground section near the Chhatarpur temple.

Anuj Dayal, principal executive director of corporate communications at DMRC, stated that a TBM broke through at the Chhatarpur Mandir station after boring an 865-metre tunnel. He noted that this milestone was achieved using a massive 97-metre TBM.

Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena and Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot were also present for the event, along with Delhi Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar and DMRC MD Vikas Kumar.

The Golden Line is intended to link Aerocity on the Airport Express Line with Tughlakabad on the Violet Line and is anticipated to be completed by mid-2026. According to DMRC officials, 47 per cent of the civil work on the line has been completed so far, with a focus on finishing the underground sections as a priority.

Officials mentioned that the 865-metre tunnel will be situated between the existing Chhatarpur Metro station, which will serve as an interchange between the Yellow and Golden lines, and the planned Chhatarpur Mandir station. They explained that the tunnel was constructed at an average depth of 15 metres, with 618 rings installed inside for structural stability.

Dayal also mentioned that two parallel circular tunnels will be built on this section for up-and-down movement, and work on the other parallel tunnel is expected to be completed by next month.
