PWD Minister Mohammed Riyas said last week, after visiting the elevated highway construction site in Kazhakootam, that the work will be completed by 2022 March. The construction of three underpasses beneath the elevated highway could be hampered by a lack of clarity in another project. The construction of these underpasses was a major topic of discussion when the minister met with the officials involved and the stakeholders involved in the project last Sunday. Two of the three underpasses, at Attinkuzhy and Mukkolakkal, have already been approved by the government, and officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) have been asked to submit a proposal for the third one in front of Technopark phase 3. The PWD officials suggested that since the underpass was being built at the request of Technopark officials, it would be preferable if they covered the costs. However, because the project would cost more than Rs 10 crore, the Technopark authorities claimed that finding such a large sum of money would be difficult. Officials from the NHAI have taken a similar stance. NHAI officials have presented the government with a revised proposal totalling Rs 35 crore, which includes the third underpass at Technopark phase 3. It's been learned that it's currently being considered by the PWD. Attinkuzhy, Technopark Phase 3, and Mukkola would be the proposed LVUPs along the NH bypass stretch. The south end ramp of the elevated highway would pass through all three locations. Each underpass would have a height of 5.5 m. The elevated highway is a critical infrastructure project that will alleviate traffic congestion in the IT corridor. The 2.7 km elevated highway runs from the CSI Mission Hospital in the north to the Technopark Phase 3 junction in the south. More than 65% of the construction work has been completed so far, according to RDS Constructions, the company in charge of the project.
