NHAI begins redevelopment work of two major roads in Trichy

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) began redevelopment works of two main stretches passing by Trichy city to limit traffic bottlenecks and accidents. The overall cost of the project is Rs 2 crore.

The two stretches classified are the Palpannai junction on the crossing of Trichy-Thanjavur and Trichy-Chennai NHS and the TVS Tollgate junction on the intersection of the Trichy-Pudukkottai and Trichy-Chennai NHS.

At Palpannai, there is no clear route for vehicles coming to the city from the Thanjavur side. Buses and cars pile up, including the vehicles going towards Chennai NH, Sanjeevi Nagar, and Varaganeri.

NHAI has started the work to add an empty left adjacent to the Thanjavur NH (G Corner end). An electric transformer, coming in between the way was removed and the cables transmitted by the underground.

Once finished, vehicles travelling towards Kallukuzhi, Subramaniapuram, Cantonment, and Mannarpuram can utilise the free left on Thanjavur NH.

Currently, a stormwater drain at TVS Tollgate is shifting to the left end of the service road on Chennai-Trichy National Highway (NH).

To reach the Trichy airport PWD offices and City Police, around 2m of space would be cleared.

According to the officials, the civil work is likely to be finished by August 2021. The 1.5m wide stormwater drains at two places (450 m length) is also moving to another place by utilising available land of NHAI.
