According to the detailed project report (DPR) submitted to the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (Yeida), the pod taxi project will cost about Rs 862 crore to boost the connectivity between the Jewar airport and the film city in Greater Noida.
As per the DPR, the length of the corridor for the ambitious project will be 14.5km.
Yeida had roped in Indian Port Rail and Ropeway Corporation Ltd (IPRCL), to prepare a DPR of the pod taxi project in March this year, to support the connectivity between the Jewar airport and the film city.
Yeida, Chief executive officer, Arun Vir Singh, said that this project will provide smooth connectivity to residential and industrial areas falling between film city and the Noida International Airport.
Pod taxis can accommodate four to six passengers per car, which are popular in many western countries
According to the Yeida officials, the project was proposed to be constructed on an elevated corridor earlier, but the DPR has recommended it to be built on the surface itself.
Singh further added that only one corridor for pod taxis has been proposed from the airport to film city and return commute. But the DPR has recommended that there should be two corridors for a hassle-free and quick commute.
Since there will now be two corridors, the value of this project has been estimated at Rs 862 crore as against an initial estimate of Rs 300 crore, said the officials.
The corridor will pass through various sectors falling under the Yeida region as per the DPR.
The officials said that the authority wants the pod taxi project to be finished by 2023.
