The pod taxi project's detailed project report (DPR), which aims to connect the proposed film city location in Sector 21 with the forthcoming Noida International Airport at Jewar, has been approved. Representatives of the Indian Port Rail and Ropeway Corporation (IPRRC) presented a DPR of Rs 810 crore project to the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) at a meeting held on Tuesday. Pod taxis, which can carry four to six people per car and are autonomous, are a popular means of transportation in many Western countries. According to the first proposal, a 14.6 km elevated pod taxi service with 12 terminals will run between Noida airport and Sector 21's film city. Officials from the IPRRC and Yeida have decided to put out a tender to choose a contractor for the project. By September 2024, the project is expected to be completed. The state administration will thoroughly examine the project before issuing tenders in May of this year. According to the final DPR, the 12 km line connecting Noida Airport and the film city will include 12 stations. The pod taxi corridor was originally scheduled to include 17 stations, however, that number was later reduced to 12. Arun Vir Singh, chief executive officer of Yeida told the media that they have added industrial property from sectors 31 and 32 to the airport to extend the aviation hub area, adding that the stations have been reduced as the structure of the airport has altered. Singh said that the DPR has been finalised and will be authorised at a board meeting after the election model code of conduct expires on March 10th. The elevated corridor will be erected at a height of 12 m above ground level and will run over the median of 100-m wide sectoral roadways. The company that would implement the pod taxi service, according to Singh, will have 13 to 15 years to recoup its investment. The concession will be valid for 35 years.
