The ongoing work on Dighe station on the trans-harbour line between Thane and Airoli stations will be completed by the end of this year. On the Mumbai Central Railway (CR) line, it would be the 81st station.
The Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC) told the media that as the work on Thane-Diva lines is complete, they would now focus on finishing the new Dighe station.
The station would be a starting point for a newly proposed elevated corridor from Airoli to Kalwa.
Rajan Vichare, Thane Member of Parliament (MP), informed the media that the development work on the station is taking place at a fast and advanced pace, and nearly 60% of the work is complete. The station would have two platforms.
He said the detailed plan comprises two platforms, a 270-metre long and 12-metre wide, both of them for 12-car local trains, including several passenger facilities, along with two lifts, four escalators, and four underpasses.
According to an official, the Dighe station is coming adjacent to the Thane-Belapur road, crossing over the Thane-Vashi line.
This station would be the primary focal point to divert Vashi trains to the Kalwa line to further reach Kalyan on the mainline.
Currently, basic station structures are building up, and escalators and elevators work is beginning.
The official further revealed that the work on rail flyover towards Kalwa, part of phase two of the project, would start right after the work for Dighe station is finished.
MRVC officials said the project's entire cost is nearly Rs 110 crore, including a ground-plus two-storey structure on each side of the station for booking offices with four ticket windows on either side.
As per the sources, the Railways has planned another new station, Chikhloli.
It would be 64.17 km away from Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CSMT) and located 4.34 km away from the current Ambernath station and 3.1 km from Badlapur station.
