The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has submitted a feasibility report to the Karnataka government, proposing the extension of Namma Metro鈥檚 Green Line from Madavara to Tumakuru. If approved, the 59.6-kilometre corridor with 26 stations would become the first intercity metro link under the Namma Metro network.
Prepared by Hyderabad-based Aarvee Associates Architects Engineers & Consultants Pvt Ltd, the feasibility study examines the technical and financial viability of constructing the corridor along Tumakuru Road. The study was commissioned on 29 June 2024 at a cost of Rs 12.5 million. The proposed project will follow a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
Key stations along the proposed route include Makali, Dasanapura, Nelamangala, T. Begur, Thippagondanahalli, Dobbspet, Hirehalli Industrial Area, Kyatsandra, Tumakuru Bus Stand, and TUDA Layout.
The proposal responds to long-standing demands from Tumakuru鈥檚 residents and elected officials, including Karnataka 亚博体育官网首页 Minister and Koratagere MLA G. Parameshwara. Tumakuru, located around 70 km from Bengaluru, has a large commuter population that relies on trains and buses to travel to the city for work.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had announced the Tumakuru Metro proposal in the 2024 State Budget, prompting the current feasibility study. With its submission, the project now awaits Cabinet approval, after which a Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be prepared and forwarded to the central government for final clearance.
鈥淭his is a long-pending demand from the people of Tumakuru,鈥 said Mr Parameshwara. He added that Union Minister of State for Railways V. Somanna is expected to support the proposal at the national level.
The large-scale nature of the project necessitates a PPP model for execution. Mr Parameshwara also revealed that a Qatar-based company has expressed interest in investing Rs 250 billion in Karnataka, covering both the Tumakuru metro and a proposed 2,500 MW solar power plant over 10,000 acres in Pavagada.
