45% Work Complete on Murkongselek鈥揚asighat Rail Line

The Murkongselek鈥揚asighat new line project, a key initiative by Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) to enhance rail connectivity between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, has achieved 45% physical progress as of March 31, 2025. The project, estimated at Rs 12.52 billion, is expected to play a crucial role in regional transportation and economic integration.
Spanning 26.15 km, the project is being executed in two phases. In Phase I (Murkongselek to Sille 鈥� 15.60 km), earthwork is nearly complete, with 13.75 lakh cubic meters done out of a total 14.16 lakh cubic meters. Work on 18 major and 35 minor bridges is advancing steadily. Ballast supply and track linking are set to begin soon, and the Murkongselek station building is nearing completion.
Phase II (Sille to Pasighat 鈥� 10.55 km) has seen 3.55 lakh cubic meters of earthwork completed out of 6.85 lakh cubic meters. Bridge construction and casting are in progress, while land acquisition for a key road overbridge at Pasighat Yard is being expedited with local support.
Despite extended monsoon seasons and local disruptions, construction has continued at a steady pace. The NFR鈥檚 General Manager (Construction) recently inspected the site and emphasized timely completion while maintaining quality standards.
Once completed, the new railway line is expected to boost tourism, enhance national integration, and open up access to remote border areas of Arunachal Pradesh.
An NFR spokesperson reiterated Indian Railways鈥� commitment to executing this strategic infrastructure project, overcoming both environmental and logistical challenges.
