Central govt focusing on improving mass transportation: PM Modi

After inaugurating Pune metro rail in Maharashtra, PM Narendra Modi said that the central government is focusing on improving mass transportation, including metro rail connectivity.

The overall cost of the Pune metro project is over Rs 11,400 crore. PM Modi had laid the foundation stone for the project on 24 December 2016.

PM Modi was addressing a public meeting at the MIT College after launching and laying the foundation stone of several development projects in the city.

He said that the inauguration of the Pune metro project shows and sends a message that projects can be completed on time and appealed to people to use metro trains for travelling.

He added that urbanisation is taking place at a fast pace across the country. The country's urban population will cross the 60 crore mark by 2030.

The increasing population brings a lot of opportunities but challenges too. Moreover, the government is giving more importance to improving mass transportation and metro rail connectivity across all cities.

PM Modi had inaugurated the Pune metro rail project and took a ride on the train after buying a ticket from a kiosk.

The inauguration ceremony of the 12 km long stretch of the total 32.2 km project took place at the Garware metro station. PM Modi had flagged off the metro project and proceeded to take the metro ride to the Anandnagar station.

The 12 km long route was inaugurated, which includes two priority stretches, Garware College to Vanaz and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation to Phugewadi on two metro lines.
