The Indian Railways will soon begin rolling out 806 new air-conditioned three-tier economy coaches this fiscal year to provide the cheapest and best AC travel in the world.
These coaches will be cost-effective, with fares ranging from AC three-tier coaches to non-AC sleeper class coaches, added the officials.
A railway official revealed that 806 AC three-tier economy class coaches will be available by the end of 2021 or early 2022. To produce these coaches, all of the coach factories will work in tandem.
The railways are preparing for the future and will provide a better travel experience for all passengers than ever before, he said.
Coaches will be manufactured at the Rail Coach Factory (RCF) in Kapurthala, the Integrated Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai, and the Modern Coach Factory (MCF) in Rai Bareilly, all of which are part of the Indian Railways. The number of berths in each coach has been increased to 83 from the current 72, giving the new coaches a higher passenger capacity.
Seats and berths on the new coaches are going to be improved and modular, with foldable snack tables in both longitudinal and transverse bays.
In each coach, there'll be individual AC vents for every berth, also together with a wider toilet door and one for the specially-abled.
In addition to the standard socket, each berth will have its own reading light and mobile charging point.
It will have a better ladder design for accessing the upper and middle berths, as well as more headroom in both berths.
Public address and passenger information systems, as well as Indian and western-style lavatories, have been installed.
The coaches will also improve fire safety by adhering to EN45545-2HL3, the international standard for materials.
There are currently 25 such coaches in service, with ten on the Western Railway, seven on the North Central Railway, five on the North Western Railway, and three on the Northern Railway.
These new AC coaches are available on the Dehradun-Prayagraj and Prayagraj-Raj Dehradun Express, Jaipur Duronto, New Delhi Duronto, Jaipur-Chennai Central Express, Jaipur-Coimbatore Express, and Lichchavi Express.
