NHSRCL to acquire land at Rs 167.60 cr for bullet train project

National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) is set to purchase land worth Rs 167.60 crore for the bullet train project from the Cash-strapped Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC).

NHSRCL would obtain land from VMC on the bullet train alignment. The alignment of the train crosses through the city from Chhani on one end and to Maneja on the other.

The VMC will have to part with 1,63,265.72 sq m of land in the city. The land covers space allocated for planned roads, existing roads and pathways and open plots. VMC will be paid at rates double the 鈥榡antri鈥 or official government rates for land.

The tourist information centre constructed near the railway station will have to be demolished for the project. It was built recently, and the VMC will be paid for that work as well.

The Land Estate department of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has sought the permission of the Standing Committee to begin the process of handing over land in its jurisdiction to the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) for the upcoming Ahmedabad-Mumbai high-speed rail corridor, popularly known as the bullet train project.

The civic body will get Rs 88.40 crore for handing over land measuring 1,46,280.78 sq m from future approved draft Town Planning schemes in Chhani, Manjalpur-Nagarwada, Vadsar and Maneja areas. The proposal before the Standing Committee also seeks permission to grant the powers to the Municipal Commissioner to ask the incremental distribution charge from the NHSRCL for the stated lands.
