Railway Minister inaugurates Jhanjharpur-Nirmali gauged section

After 88 years the demand of Bihar鈥檚 Mithilanchal residents was fulfilled on May 7 as Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated the Jhanjharpur-Nirmali newly gauged converted rail section of 32 km and Nirmali-Asanpur new rail line of 6 km via a video conferencing.

He told the media that rail services on the new section was started by flagging off train number 05553 Jhanjharpur-Saharsa DEMU Special train.

The Railway Minister cited May 7 as the historic day as after 88 years, with the commissioning of this railway line, a huge issue in the region was resolved. The locals had to travel a long distance to move from one place to another on the bridge on the Kosi river.

However, this will bring great comfort to people residing in Mithilanchal region as it will decrease the distance between Jhanjharpur and Saharsa by half.

He also said that Rs 6,600 crore has been allotted for the development work of rail infrastructure and passenger facilities in Bihar.

On this recently inaugurated railway section, three pairs of new DEMU special trains will operate from May 8 from Laheriasarai to Saharsa through Darbhanga, Tamuria, Jhanjharpur, Sakri, Nirmali, Saraigarh, and Supaul.

This rail project lies under the 206 km long Sakri-Lauha Bazar Nirmali and Saharsa-Forbesganj gauge conversion project, which costs about Rs 1584 crore. Around Rs 456 crore has been spent on the 32 km long Jhanjharpur-Nirmali gauge conversion and 6 km long Nirmali-Asanpur Kupaha railway line's construction. Along with this, the Kosi Megabridge has been built at an expense of Rs 491 crore.
