The online dredging monitoring system, known as 'SAGAR SAMRIDDHI', was launched by Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways (MoPSW) and Ayush, Sarbananda Sonowal, with the aim of accelerating the Ministry's 'Waste to Wealth' initiative. The programme was attended by Secretary of MoPSW, Sudhansh Pant, along with other senior officials from the Ministry, Major Ports, and Organizations. The National Technology Centre for Ports, Waterways and Coasts (NTCPWC), the technological arm of MoPSW, developed this system. The new technology offers significant improvements compared to the old Draft & Loading Monitor (DLM) system.
It was stated that the system would bring synergy among various input reports, including daily dredging reports, pre and post dredging survey data, and real-time dredging reports. The 'Sagar Samriddhi' monitoring system provides features such as daily and monthly progress visualisation, dredger performance and downtime monitoring, and easy location tracking data, including snapshots of loading, unloading, and idle time. The implementation of this system aligns with the Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India vision of Prime Minister Modi.
During the event, Sonowal emphasised the importance of technology in monitoring systems to minimise human errors. He mentioned that Major Ports would now be able to utilise the Online Dredging Monitoring System, leading to significant improvements in project implementation and cost reduction through the utilisation of dredged materials. This approach would contribute to environmental sustainability and decrease operational costs, promoting transparency and efficiency.
Sudhansh Pant, Secretary of MoPSW, stated that the monitoring system is expected to enhance productivity, contract management, and the effective reuse of dredged material, aligning with the waste to wealth concept.
He said, "The monitoring system is anticipated to improve productivity, contract management, and enable effective reuse of dredged material, thus promoting the waste to wealth concept."
