Smart cities Jammu and Srinagar undergoing massive transformations

In the last three years, the Union government has approved over 276 projects in Jammu and Srinagar under the 'Smart Cities' mission. The projects aim to transform these cities into vibrant hubs with modern amenities such as quality city services, public aesthetics, ease of living, and clean and sustainable environments. Jammu and Srinagar, which were previously congested and underdeveloped, have now been transformed into vibrant smart cities. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the "Smart Cities" project, which focuses on improving urban governance and administration, on June 25, 2015, with the goal of developing 100 Smart Cities across the country.

The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs chose Jammu and Srinagar cities in the third round of competition in June 2017. With the goal of driving economic growth and improving people's quality of life across the country, effective steps are being taken to ensure that these projects are completed on time. The Srinagar and Jammu Smart City projects have been designed with a clear focus on improving urban governance and releasing the historical cities' latent creativity and vitality. Under Smart City Mission, the vision for Jammu city is "Transforming Jammu into a sustainable and economically vibrant city with focus on tourism, quality of life and trade by leveraging its heritage and location".
