The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has proposed the establishment of a Control Command Centre (CCC) to enhance integrated municipal solid waste management (SWM). The civic body aims to implement and operate an advanced, IT-enabled CCC to improve operational efficiency and service delivery in SWM, as well as address public grievances related to garbage disposal, according to officials.
The CCC will monitor the movement of Swachh Auto Tippers (SATs) and GPS-equipped garbage trucks via a large live screen that will be installed at the centre.
The city generates approximately 6,500 to 7,000 tonne of garbage daily. The GHMC is tasked with the collection, transportation, and disposal of solid waste over an area of 625 sq km, serving a population of over 10 million, which is divided into 30 circles, six zones, and 150 divisions. The CCC will enable the GHMC to leverage the latest technology and IT systems to make informed decisions in transport, surveillance, SWM, and other city operations based on real-time data analysis, as stated by the officials.
In this regard, the GHMC has sought expressions of interest for setting up a CCC for monitoring SWM. This includes all necessary software and hardware with alert capabilities, GPS device installation for real-time tracking of all SWM vehicles, primary and secondary transport vehicles, street sweeping machines, and monitoring of bins and garbage-prone areas.
The officials mentioned that the scope of work involves a comprehensive assessment, including a detailed evaluation of the current SWM monitoring system and sanitation. It also includes the development, procurement, and implementation of technology, software, and hardware to create a state-of-the-art CCC, as well as the deployment of trained personnel.
They further noted that the project aims to enhance data management capabilities, improve communication protocols, manage and operate the CCC, and provide continuous 24/7 monitoring support. Additionally, training will be provided to GHMC personnel to effectively utilize the upgraded systems.
