Government inaugurates water supply project in Meghalaya

In the presence of Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and other dignitaries, 亚博体育官网首页 Minister Amit Shah Sunday inaugurated a water supply project in East Khasi Hills, which will benefit over 20,000 people.
According to the media, the state government's Greater Sohra Water Supply Scheme, which is being funded by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), will cost Rs 24.08 crore.
During the programme, Shah said that the Narendra Modi government is taking the necessary steps to ensure that every household has access to safe drinking water.
At the inauguration, DoNER minister G Kishan Reddy, DoNER MoS B L Verma, MoS science and technology Jitendra Singh, and PHE minister Renikton Lyngdoh were all present.
The project will supply water to Sohra Town and 12 habitations near Sohra in the East Khasi Hills by tapping the stream source of Wah Lyngksiar waterfall and another spring, according to the media.
During the day, Shah also introduced the Sohra Afforestation Project, a collaboration between the Assam Rifles Union and the Meghalaya government.
Fuelwood trees will be planted, nurseries will be established, and efforts will be made to build the capacity of local communities to manage natural resources as part of the venture.
Following the launch of the project, Shah highlights the role of afforestation and tree planting.
In addition, Shah told the media that a goal of planting one million trees in various parts of the country over the next three years has been established. With Prime Minister Modi's proposed action plan at the Paris Agreement, the entire world is fighting global warming and carbon emissions.
