Yogi: UP Inland waterways authority formation complete

Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister, Uttar Pradesh announced that the authorities should expedite the formation of the Uttar Pradesh Inland Waterways Authority.

During a high-level meeting, Yogi conveyed that they should appoint distinguished experts for the positions of chairman and vice-chairman in the Authority. He stated that the state's transport commissioner ought to be designated as its CEO.

Yogi mentioned that the authority would collaborate with the Inland Waterways Authority of India as the central agency. He emphasized that the authority would oversee all matters pertaining to inland water transportation and tourism. He also urged for adherence to environmental and safety regulations concerning water transport, hydrographic survey, developmental investigations, and enhanced waterway utilisation.

Yogi suggested that the authority should analyse data on inland water traffic. He proposed conducting scientific research related to inland water transport, tourism, shipping, and navigation. Furthermore, he recommended providing technical training to stakeholders, officers, and employees involved in inland water transport.

He also highlighted the importance of defining the catchment area to ensure efficient use and regulation of river waterways. He emphasised the necessity of river channelisation to maintain navigability throughout the year. Yogi stressed the significance of dredging operations to ensure uninterrupted flow and the establishment of necessary infrastructure for inland water transport. He also mentioned that the authority would have a crucial role in designing the circuit route.
