Cabinet Approves Rs 3.7 Billion Semiconductor Plant in Jewar

21 May 2025
The Union Cabinet has approved a semiconductor manufacturing facility worth Rs 3.706 billion in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh. The project is a joint venture between HCL and Foxconn, aimed at producing display driver chips for mobile phones, laptops, and vehicles.

The upcoming unit will process twenty thousand wafers each month and produce around 36 million chips. It will be the sixth semiconductor facility approved in India, and will manufacture advanced chips essential for electronics and automotive sectors.

The new plant is expected to begin operations by 2027 and generate direct employment for about two thousand individuals. Currently, India鈥檚 electronics manufacturing industry employs approximately 2.5 million people, and the project is expected to significantly boost job creation.

Foxconn, a key global electronics manufacturer, is known for supplying major companies like Apple. The facility will also contribute to Foxconn鈥檚 global supply chain while catering to domestic demand.

The government sees this project as a foundation for future display panel manufacturing in India, supporting its goal to reduce import dependence and build a robust semiconductor ecosystem.
