Odisha to bag Baitarani West coal block soon

The state government hopes to bag the Baitarani West coal block soon for its PSU, Odisha Thermal Power Corporation (OTPCL), a 50:50 JV between Odisha Mining Corporation and Odisha Hydro Power Corporation. Initially, the state government had demanded allotment of Chhendipada and Chhendipada II coal blocks to OTPCL. But these coal blocks had already been earmarked for auctions. Also, OTPCL had earlier bagged the Tentuloi coal block. Even with the use of best technologies, only 2 mn tonne of coal can be extracted from this mine annually while OTPCL麓 requirement for the power project is 16 mtpa.
