Cummins India Ltd (CIL) is a 51 per cent subsidiary of Cummins Inc USA, the world's largest independent designer and manufacturer of diesel engines above 200 HP. Launched in Pune in 1962, CIL has today become one of India's leading manufacturers of diesel engines with a range from 15 kVA to 2,000 kVA. The company's products include diesel and natural gas engines in the range of 65 HP to 3,500 HP. These products cater to various market segments such as construction, mining, marine, rail, agriculture, oil and gas, power generation and defence. It manufactures over 35,000 engines and gensets per annum and is counted amongst the country's largest exporters of engineering products. Comprising four business units including industrial engine, power generation, distribution, and automotive, CIL is also the largest entity of the Cummins Group in India. On September 10, 2013, the company inaugurated the Phaltan High Horsepower Plant in the SEZ at the Cummins megasite in Phaltan, Maharashtra. This is the seventh factory to open at the megasite and Cummins' largest high horsepower manufacturing site in the world.

The company's standalone revenue in 2012-2013 rose 11.3 per cent to Rs 4,509 crore while its net profit rose 29.2 per cent to Rs 764.11 crore from Rs 591.27 crore in the previous year.
