LOHUM & Altigreen join forces for eco-friendly EV battery disposal

Lohum, a sustainable energy transition materials producer, and Altigreen, a manufacturer of commercial electric vehicles (EVs) in India, have announced a strategic partnership aimed at addressing the challenge of sustainable battery disposal in the EV industry. The collaboration seeks to promote responsible practices and reduce the carbon footprint associated with Altigreen's EVs.
It was revealed that as the demand for EV batteries continues to rise, there is a corresponding increase in battery waste. In response, Altigreen and LOHUM have joined forces to establish an innovative framework for responsible battery disposal and recycling, aligning with Altigreen's sustainability objectives. LOHUM, which is registered as an Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) partner under India's Battery Waste Management Rules (BWMR 2022), will assist Altigreen in meeting its recycling targets seamlessly.
As part of the partnership, LOHUM will utilize its NEETM technology to recycle end-of-life batteries from Altigreen's electric vehicles. This process will enable the recovery of up to 95% of high-purity battery raw materials for the production of new batteries. Over the course of the next three years, LOHUM plans to recycle 1 GWh of Altigreen EV cargo vehicle batteries, making a significant contribution to reducing battery waste and optimizing resource utilization.
Dr Amitabh Saran, Founder and CEO of Altigreen, expressed his excitement about the partnership, stating that they are thrilled to collaborate with LOHUM in developing a comprehensive battery recycling program. He further emphasized that this partnership will enable them to responsibly manage the end-of-life batteries from their electric vehicles, thereby reducing waste and minimizing the environmental impact of their operations.
Rajat Verma, Founder and CEO of LOHUM, added that through their battery recycling expertise, they aim to support Altigreen in their commitment to circular economy practices and contribute to the overall growth of the EV industry.
