Magenta, a Mumbai-based EV solutions provider, is setting up India's largest public EV charging station in Navi Mumbai as part of its goal to provide 4,000 charging facilities by March 2022. Magenta told the media that the company plans to increase its footprint to overseas markets by the March quarter of this financial year. It said that recently, the firm closed its round of Series-A funding of Rs 120 crore from American philanthropist Kiran Patel and aims to draw in Rs 30 crore to establish its manufacturing facility and charger development for India and exports. The company said that this integrated charging plus development plus manufacturing unit will provide for the production and development of the AC chargers along with the streetlamp chargers. The integrated charging and development and manufacturing will allow Magenta to become an end-to-end Socket to Software solution provider for EV charging, it said. Of the 4,000 such facilities, about 1,000 are being established in collaboration with public sector oil marketing company HPCL, he said. As we have reported earlier, in March this year, HPCL and Magenta Power had established their first set of street lamp-integrated chargers, ChargeGrid, at two locations in India, one each in Mumbai and Delhi. It will be operative round-the-clock with 21 AC/ DC chargers for two, three and four wheelers and can charge a vehicle in 45 minutes, depending upon the chargers. Magenta's manufacturing facility has the potential to generate close to 4,000 AC chargers every month. The company told the media that at the newly-launched public charging facility, a parking bay has been created for vehicles that need AC slow charging, which enables overnight charging as well. These chargers, which are also powered by a combined 40 KW rooftop solar power, can be controlled through the ChargeGrid App with online remote monitoring that involves an automated payment gateway, thereby eradicating the need of having a station marshal to operate, monitor and maintain the chargers at the location. The installation of this public EV charging station in Mumbai will help the government initiative of establishing 400,000 charging stations to satisfy the need for two million EVs that could potentially be used on the roads over the country by 2026, Magenta said. Under the draft Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2021, Maharashtra plans to bring at least 1,46,000 new battery-operated electric vehicles (BEVs) on state roads by 2025, estimated to contain about 10% of all new vehicle registrations by that time.
