Solar generation in India surges 18% to 51.67 BU in Q3 CY21

India's solar power generation stood at 51.67 billion units in nine months of the calendar year (CY) 2021, with 18% year-on-year (YoY) growth, compared to 43.97 billion units during the same period last year.
During Q3 CY 2021, solar power generation stood at 16.03 billion units, compared to 18.12 billion units in the last quarter. Solar power generation has increased by 23% YoY, compared to 12.99 billion units in Q3 2020.
In Q3, the solar power generation was affected due to the Covid-19 pandemic and declined by 11.6% quarter-over-quarter (QoQ) in Q3 2021.
In Q1 2021, India generated about 17.5 billion units of solar power, with 23% growth, compared to 14.2 billion units in the last quarter. Solar power generation has increased by 21% and stood at 60.4 billion units in FY20-21 from 50.1 billion units in FY19-20.
According to the sources, India has installed 4,578 MW of solar capacity in the first half (H1) of FY21, with 251% growth during the same period last year. The cumulative solar installations in Q2 FY21 reached 43.6 GW.
According to data, the total installed renewable energy capacity of the country stood at 147.8 GW, including a 38% total power mix by the end of Q3 2021. Solar installations have increased by 11.8% of the total installed capacity, compared to 11.3% in Q2 FY21.
According to the Ministry of Power, India has reduced its peak power deficit from 16.6% in FY08 to 0.4% in FY21. However, the peak power deficit has increased to 1.2% in October. The ministry said that the power spike was due to the annual post-monsoon pressure on power output, and it will normalize by December.
