Tamil Nadu to set up 4,000 MW renewable power project

The R K Singh, Union Minister for New & Renewable Energy and Power, informed that a project had been approved under Green Energy Corridor Phase-II.

The project aimed to establish 624 ckm of transmission lines and 2200 MVA capacity substations by FY 2025-26. This initiative aimed to evacuate renewable energy power of approximately 4000 MW capacity in the state of Tamil Nadu. The approval for this project was granted by the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, and it was estimated to cost Rs 7.19 billion. The central government provided a grant of Rs 2.37 billion, which covered 33% of the project cost. The implementation of the project was assigned to the state agency, Tamil Nadu Transmission Corporation (TANTRANSCO).

In the past, under Green Energy Corridor Phase-I, TANTRANSCO had completed the sanctioned project to establish 1068 ckm of transmission lines and 1910 MVA capacity substations on October 31, 2022. For this Phase-I project, the Ministry had already released a grant of Rs 5.24 billion to TANTRANSCO.

Singh provided this information in a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha.
